Twilight on the Tradewinds, The Maitland SOLD

The clipper Maitland was launched in 1865 at William Pile’s shipyard in Sunderland, England. The owner was John R Kelso of North Shields. She was a fierce competitor in the China tea trade, voyaging between Britain and ports like Hong Kong, Shanghai, and Foochow. She was wrecked on May 25, !874, after a relatively short career, on a coral reef in the Hoon Islands (north of New Caledonia) while on passage from Brisbane to Foochow.
