The Spindrift at Daybreak -SOLD

£ 1800

Oil on Canvas 30″ x20″

Built in 1867 by Charles Connel of Alexander Stephens & Sons Glasgow yard. At the time of her build, Spindrift was the longest tea clipper afloat at 219 feet. She was also one of the fastest and most beautiful. Unfortunately, she had very short life. In 1870, a new captain left a pilot in sole charge of the ship. A fatal error resulted in her foundering off Dungeness, a total loss.
