Coastal Passage

This work was inspired by my love of the open sea and traditional sailing craft. “Coastal Passage” presents a dynamic seascape where powerful waves crash against rugged rocks under a sky painted with moody clouds and warm twilight hues. A distant sailing ship navigates the deep blue ocean, evoking a sense of journey and resilience.

The ship depicted is the two-masted topsail schooner ‘Snowflake’ built in 1880 in Runcorn. She made the last Atlantic crossing by a Runcorn schooner in 1922 and continued trading until shortly before WW2 when she was sold to Yugoslavian owners and began a second career in the Mediterranean.

The painting conveys both the restless energy of the sea and the calm determination of those who traverse it, making it an evocative addition to any space seeking a touch of maritime spirit.
